We’re Hiring: Human Resources Specialist (Part-Time, Remote)
Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Human Resources Specialist to support our growing, mission-driven organization. This part-time role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate payroll processing, strong benefits administration, and compliant HR operations that support our staff across the organization.
This position is fully remote and reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Position Details
- Title: Human Resources Specialist
- Status: Part-Time (20 hours per week)
- Location: Fully Remote
Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll Administration
- Prepare and process accurate, timely payroll, including regular and off-cycle payrolls
- Review payroll reports for accuracy and compliance
- Coordinate payroll tax filings and year-end reporting (e.g., W-2s)
- Serve as the primary liaison with the payroll service provider
- Maintain payroll records in accordance with legal and organizational requirements
Benefits Administration
- Administer employee benefit programs, including enrollments, changes, terminations, and open enrollment
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits questions
- Coordinate with benefits brokers and insurance carriers
- Maintain benefits documentation and employee communications
- Support compliance with applicable benefits-related regulations
Employee Onboarding and Offboarding
- Coordinate onboarding for new hires, including employment documentation, system access, and benefits enrollment
- Ensure completion and proper retention of required employment forms
- Manage offboarding processes, including final payroll and benefits continuation information
HR Policies, Records, and Compliance
- Maintain and update the employee handbook and benefits guide
- Assist leadership with development and communication of HR policies and procedures
- Maintain accurate, confidential personnel files
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Assist with audits, reporting, and internal reviews as needed
Additional Support
- Provide general HR guidance to employees and managers
- Assist with special projects and process improvements related to HR and payroll
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll and HR administration
- Working knowledge of payroll processes, employment laws, and benefits administration
- Experience with payroll systems and HRIS platforms
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
- Familiarity with multi-state payroll and benefits administration
- HR or payroll certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, CPP)
Work Schedule
- 20 hours per week
- Flexible schedule, with availability aligned to payroll deadlines and organizational needs
