Job Description

Posted on: August 2, 2025

At Greener by Default, you will be working towards the ambitious goal of completely transforming institutional foodservice - and the food system as a whole - by making plant-based food the default.

We recognize that the fate of humans, animals, and ecosystems are bound together, and strive to create a food system that will allow all life on earth to flourish. In order to achieve our vision, we develop strategies rooted in science, sustainability, and inclusivity to empower institutions to serve plant-forward food.

Position Objective:

Greener by Default has successfully  partnered with hospitals, university and corporate cafeterias, and foodservice management companies across the United States to implement evidence-based behavioral science interventions that encourage more sustainable, plant-based food choices. With multinational foodservice management companies serving over 10 billion meals annually, we recognize the extraordinary opportunity to scale our impact globally.

Rather than establishing our own international chapters, Greener by Default seeks to amplify the work of existing organizations and advocates. We aim to provide these partners with our proven methodologies, resources, and expertise to enhance their effectiveness in promoting plant-based nudge strategies .

As International Manager, you will support a global network of mission-aligned organizations and advocates. You will identify strategic collaboration opportunities, share knowledge and best practices, and empower our partners to successfully implement plant-based defaults in foodservice operations within their locality, while respecting local food traditions. Your role will be instrumental in expanding our impact while enhancing local advocacy ecosystems.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Build Global Network: Represent Greener by Default at international conferences, forums, and networking events to identify and establish relationships with potential partner organizations and advocates worldwide.
  • Develop and Maintain Strategic Partnerships: Cultivate and nurture relationships with local food policy, animal welfare and sustainability-focused NGOs and advocates across different regions, as well as organizations who are coordinating relevant international networks. Build a robust international roster of partners who can effectively implement Greener by Default's approaches in their local contexts.
  • Oversee Regional Implementation Strategies: Work with GBD’s team and partners to coordinate the adaptation of Greener by Default's strategic frameworks to diverse cultural, culinary, and institutional environments.
  • Knowledge Exchange and Capacity Building: Facilitate knowledge sharing between partners across regions, creating opportunities for cross-cultural learning, and between the GBD US staff and international partners.
  • Measure and Report Global Impact: Compile success stories, metrics, and learnings to demonstrate collective global impact and inform future strategy.
  • Drive International Growth: Identify emerging opportunities in new regions and develop strategic approaches to expand Greener by Default's global influence through partnerships.

Individual Attributes Required

  • Intellectual integrity: Provide information rooted in science, adapt messaging and tactics based on the latest behavioral research.
  • Ambition: Boldly drive change within institutional foodservice norms, be persistent when pursuing clients and outgoing when meeting new contacts.
  • Open communication: Continuously seek out new information and dialogue, cultivate trust with staff through honest conversations and feedback.
  • Foster inclusion: Meet people where they are, strive to understand and acknowledge the different cultural contexts within which you’re working, hold space for divergent perspectives.
  • Growth mindset: See challenges and mistakes as opportunities to adapt and improve. Continuously strive to hone your expertise and refine your skills in order to best serve the organization’s and client’s goals.

Position Requirements:

  • B2 or C1 level English language proficiency
  • At least one year of project management experience
  • Strong people and networking skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to the organization's mission, vision, and strategic plan
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and take initiative
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Has a healthy relationship with feedback and communication
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Passionate about plant-based foods
  • Engaging presenter and workshop facilitator

We prefer candidates who have the following experience:

  • Second language proficiency
  • Prior foodservice experience
  • Strong connections and contacts in a specific corporate sector or in sustainability
  • Experience working with CRMs or sales data management

We strongly encourage people of every color, orientation, age, gender, origin, and ability to apply. Because we value a diverse workplace, we prioritize an inclusive climate during the application process and after you join the team. We encourage candidates with most of the above qualifications to apply; we do not expect all candidates to fit this job description 100%.

Reports to:

Katie Cantrell, CEO

Compensation:

Compensation will be competitive and determined based on relevant wage data for the candidate's geographic location, as well as their specific experience and professional credentials. The applicable pay range will be discussed with candidates during their initial screening interview.

Location:

This is a full-time, fully remote position. Candidates must possess the flexibility to schedule and attend meetings that accommodate various international time zones, including those in the US. This will require a willingness to adapt working hours as needed to effectively collaborate with a global team and stakeholders.

In order to apply, please fill out this form. We will not consider any candidates who have not filled out the form. Please do not contact us via email or message to apply. Applications will be received on a rolling basis until filled.
