Senior Business Intelligence Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a contract Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to lead semantic modeling and advanced analytics development on a Fabric based deployment. This role focuses on building Spark-based data products, developing semantic models, and serving as a technical advisor to analytics and data architecture teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain Fabric semantic models (Direct Lake, Live, or Import) supporting Finance and Analytics teams.
• Build and optimize Spark Gold layer tables using PySpark and Spark SQL to feed BI and semantic workloads.
• Develop dashboards, measures, and KPIs using advanced DAX, ensuring consistency and performance.
• Develop BI Dashboards, including translation and documentation of legacy semantic logic.
• Provide architectural and analytical advisory support across BI and data engineering teams.
• Own workspace organization, environment separation (Dev/Test/Prod), and semantic documentation.

Qualifications

• Senior-level experience in BI, analytics engineering, or semantic modeling.
• Advanced skills in PySpark, Spark SQL, SQL, and DAX.
• Hands-on experience with BI semantic models, including Direct Lake or Live models.
• Experience building analytics solutions in Microsoft Fabric or a comparable modern data platform.
• Strong communication skills and comfort working in a client-facing, advisory role.
• Experience in health insurance or healthcare analytics strongly preferred.

Preferred Skills

• Proficiency with Azure DevOps for version control, release management, and pipeline automation.
• Exposure to advanced governance practices.
• Consulting experience, particularly in customer advisory and deployments.
• Experience collaborating with product teams and familiarity with SDLC practices.
