Founded in 1975, the Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) is the government-recognised professional body and registration board for the music therapy profession in Australia. We manage the registration and regulatory obligations of registered music therapists. AMTA promotes and advocates for the music therapy profession by lobbying to increase consumer access to music therapy services.
AMTA’s mission is to enable, advance and advocate for excellence in music therapy on behalf of its members and the community.
About the role
AMTA’s Advocacy Officer plays a pivotal role in advancing AMTA’s advocacy agenda and ensuring music therapy is increasingly recognised and included in funded health, education and wellbeing programs.
You will work closely with AMTA’s CEO, board and Industry Engagement Committee to:
- Lead the design and delivery of AMTA’s advocacy plan.
- Monitor and analyse policy developments across health, disability, aged care, mental health and education sectors.
- Prepare evidence-based submissions, position papers and consultation responses.
- Build and maintain relationships with government, peak bodies and sector stakeholders.
- Represent AMTA in meetings, forums and consultations.
- Support communications that promote AMTA’s advocacy priorities.
This is a flexible, part-time role (15 hours per week) working remotely, with some travel required. Hours can be arranged flexibly.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a record of high-quality submissions and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small, motivated team.
Experience in a peak body/professional association and knowledge of music therapy practice will be highly regarded.
What we offer
- Salary $90,000 – $110,000 pro rata (dependent on skills and experience).
