Fantastic opportunity for a finance professional to join Nattergal as a Financial Controller in their growing team.
Nattergal is on a mission to deliver nature recovery at scale, restoring ecologically degraded land, rebuilding functioning ecosystems and developing the commercial models that can make nature an investable asset class.
It is a growing, ambitious business, but still a lean one. And that is important to this role. This isn’t a Financial Controller position where you sit above the detail and manage a large team. It’s a broad, hands-on role for someone who can take a growing, scale-up style finance environment and make it robust, fit for growth and genuinely useful to the business.
Working closely with the CFO, you’ll be supported by some external partners and internal administration resource, but you’ll personally own much of the finance agenda.
That will include:
• Taking ownership of financial control, reporting and month-end reconciliations
• Leading year-end and working with external auditors
• Building controls that are robust but proportionate to the size of the business
• Leading budgeting and forecasting processes
• Improving forecast accuracy, visibility and accountability across the organisation
• Developing scenario modelling, KPIs and forward-looking financial analysis
• Overseeing cash-flow forecasting and payment cycles
• Partnering with operational, site and project teams to understand cost drivers and project economics
• Helping teams forecast spend, allocate resources and understand site-level financial performance
• Managing revenue reconciliation for longer-term deferred natural capital revenues
• Owning finance systems and reporting tools
• Identifying sensible opportunities for automation, AI and process improvement
There is a genuine build and do element to the role. One day you might be working with the CFO on forecasting, scenario analysis or management information. The next you may need to get into a reconciliation, payment process or spreadsheet yourself to understand what isn’t working and fix it.
We’re looking for an ACA, ACCA or CIMA-qualified finance professional who has operated as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance professional within an SME, owner-managed or growing business.
You’ll need strong financial reporting and controls experience, alongside solid budgeting and forecasting capability. Just as importantly, you’ll need to be:
• Hands-on and comfortable operating in a lean environment
• Pragmatic and adaptable
• Commercially curious
• Interested in improving systems and processes
• Able to move between strategic thinking and operational execution
• Self-sufficient and comfortable taking ownership
The role is remote, with some face-to-face interaction with the wider Nattergal team, so a location easily accessible to London/SE is preferred.
If you like the idea of building a finance function rather than simply inheriting one while being prepared to roll your sleeves up and make it work, I’d be interested to hear from you.
