Money Laundering Reporting Officer, MLRO
Remote, UK
Circa £60,000 + benefits
Permanent, with FTC or interim options considered
Gambling sector experience essential
We’re working with a growing group of businesses within the gambling and sports betting sector to recruit an experienced Money Laundering Reporting Officer.
This is an important hire and they are keen to get someone in as soon as possible. You’ll take ownership of the MLRO and wider AML remit, supporting several businesses within the group, with further companies expected to join as they continue to grow.
This is a hands on role and we need someone who genuinely knows AML and financial crime within the gambling sector, can operate confidently within a regulated environment and is comfortable taking ownership from day one.
What you’ll be doing
- Taking ownership of the AML and Counter Terrorist Financing framework, risk assessments, policies and controls
- Acting as the key escalation point for AML and financial crime matters
- Assessing suspicious activity and making appropriate, well documented SAR decisions
- Overseeing Enhanced Due Diligence, Source of Funds and Source of Wealth reviews
- Reviewing higher risk transactional activity and payment behaviours
- Overseeing customer risk assessment, including PEP, sanctions and adverse media screening
- Reviewing transaction monitoring and AML controls, identifying emerging risks and areas for improvement
- Providing clear advice and reporting to senior leadership
- Supporting Gambling Commission compliance assessments, regulatory enquiries, audits and licence reviews
- Helping ensure regulatory requirements are translated into practical, effective controls across the businesses
What we’re looking for
- Previous experience as an MLRO, Deputy MLRO or within a senior AML or financial crime role in the gambling sector
- Strong practical knowledge of AML, financial crime, SARs, EDD, Source of Funds and Source of Wealth
- Experience working within a UK Gambling Commission regulated environment
- Confidence dealing with regulators and senior stakeholders
- Experience developing or maintaining AML risk assessments, policies and procedures
- Strong judgement and the ability to make proportionate, evidence based decisions
- The confidence to challenge where necessary while remaining pragmatic and commercially aware
- A relevant professional qualification such as ICA, ACAMS or equivalent would be beneficial, although practical gambling experience is more important
- Gambling sector experience is essential for this role.
You will also need to hold, or be capable of obtaining, the appropriate Gambling Commission Personal Management Licence where required.
There’s plenty of scope with this role. The group is growing, the remit will develop as further businesses join, and you’ll have the opportunity to make a genuine impact on how the AML and compliance function operates going forward.
They would ideally like someone to join permanently, although experienced candidates looking for a FTC or interim opportunity will also be considered due to the urgency of the hire.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, sponsorship is not available for this role.
If you have a strong MLRO or senior AML background within gambling and would like to hear more, please get in touch for a confidential conversation.
Talent Finance is committed to creating an inclusive recruitment process and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates, regardless of age, disability, gender identity, marital status, race, religion, sex or sexual orientation.
