Job Description
The Learning Experience Designer (LXD) is a key member of the Learning Experience Design (LXD) team who contributes to projects and delivers thoughtful learning experiences. The LXD brings applied knowledge of best practices in instructional design to work with clients across multiple sectors. The LXD is primarily an individual contributor assigned specific tasks and supported by other team members. The LXD joins the LXD team with a background creating superior learning experiences that are engaging, adhere to quality standards, use a variety of media, and meet time/budget requirements.
Responsibilities
Functions as an ID on projects:
- Creates pedagogically-sound learning experiences using plans and approaches provided by the project lead.
- Participates in conversations with client stakeholders, often SMEs, about how to meet goals while applying online learning best practices.
- Participates in mocking up samples to help clients understand recommendations.
- Uses a solutions mindset to suggest process improvement or changes.
- Works within the parameters of project scope of work by proactively raising concerns about established scope.
- Conducts research on the use of tools identified for use in specific projects.
- Remains up-to-speed on best practices and trends in instructional design.
Leverages the following skills to execute project work:
- Client facing – Contributes to conversations with clients and participates in design efforts with SMEs, faculty and other client stakeholders.
- Collaborative – Works effectively with members of multiple teams. Works to ensure their priorities are clear and remain inline with larger needs.
- Supportive – Shares knowledge and expertise with other IDs.
- Business-minded – Takes a proactive approach to learning the business with the goal of contributing more effectively to project workflow and flagging risks that may endanger project health to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Big picture focus – Is curious and inquisitive about projects to develop a better understanding of the types of clients we serve.
- Initiative – Accepts new challenges in the spirit of gaining experience and developing new skills. Open to taking on opportunities to grow and better support project and team needs.
- Independent – Actively seeks out resources and develops problem-solving skills to work independently within the scope of work.
- Innovative – Seeks out and uses new tools, technologies, and techniques to solve design, workflow, and timeline challenges.
Willingness to travel:
- Up to 5% travel to client sites, conference attendance, and other opportunities.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Instructional design theory and practices
- Experience with at least one of the following: Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Brightspace or other LMSs
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Attention to detail
- Organization and time management
- Writing and editing
- Active listening
- Customer service mindset
- Comfortable with teamwork and collaborative ways of working
- Problem-solving and creative thinking skills
- Ability and resilience to work through ambiguous situations
Minimum Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Masters degree in any field plus at least 2 years of ID experience, or
- Master’s degree or Ed.D in instructional design, educational technology or a related field plus at least 1 year of ID experience, or
- Ph.D in any field plus at least 3 years of ID experience.
Special skills considered a plus:
- Experience with content creation tools such as Articulate Storyline or Rise
- Media design/storyboarding and review
- Competency based learning
- Accessibility and WCAG compliance
- DEIA and inclusivity
- Universal Design for Learning
- Development of interactives & simulations
- Project management
- Training and facilitation
