The role in a nutshell:

The Controller is responsible for leading the Finance Team while safeguarding assets and assuring accurate, timely recording and reporting of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls, and checks across all departments. This individual is precise with a high level of attention to data accuracy and timely reporting to support business decisions.

What your day looks like

  • Oversee the accounting function of the Finance department, with coverage over the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Financial Reporting, and Taxes/Compliance.
  • Develop and manage the accounting team through facilitation and encouragement of regular communication within and between teams. Provide regular, clear, and specific feedback, actively managing employee development and performance issues. Complete timely and accurate formal employee reviews
  • Lead and improve the monthly financial close, ensuring that all revenues and expenses are properly accrued and reported.
  • Produce reporting and analysis which includes monthly financial statements and analyses, reconciliations, cash flow reporting, and ad hoc management reporting. Continuously improve the issuance of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial records in accordance with established company timelines.
  • Ensure proper general ledger accounting in accordance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as responsibility for specific accounting areas, as agreed to with the EVP, Head of Finance.
  • Enhance process controls and systems, streamline accounting policies, procedures, and improve process efficiency to facilitate timely information to support business and policy decisions made by executive management. Enhance the company’s system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Provide expert guidance on all accounting matters and ensure that the impact of new accounting standards and recommendations are appropriately actioned.
  • Develop and maintain an effective, collaborative relationship with external auditors, vendors, and partners, to ensure that key accounting issues are identified early in the process, and actions put in place to address issues
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Assist with special projects and ad-hoc reporting.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Finance, set objectives and monitor progress against them.

Your skills

  • Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closing, reporting, data analysis, etc.)
  • Advanced MS Excel skills Accounting Software Systems and Applications. Direct involvement in using and optimizing ERP systems Netsuite, Strata, and Salesforce preferred.
  • Well-organized with ability to prioritize
  • Strong supervisory and management skills
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
