Mentalwell is a fast-growing telepsychiatry provider specialising in ADHD and autism.
We deliver care across England through the NHS, alongside services for private patients. Our focus is on making high-quality mental healthcare more accessible, efficient and patient-centred.
You will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function — including the ledger, month-end close, cash, receivables and financial controls — reporting directly to the CEO and CFO.
This is intentionally a broad, hands-on role. Initially, there will be no finance team beneath you: you will be responsible for completing the bank reconciliations as well as defining how they should be done.
In return, you will have genuine ownership of the finance function, direct access to senior leadership and the board, and the opportunity to build the team and processes around you as the business grows.
- Month-end close and a high-quality management accounts pack that gives the board a clear view of business performance
- Accounts receivable and credit control across multiple clients
- Accounts payable, clinician and freelancer payment runs, and supplier relationships
- Payroll, working with our accountants on PAYE and pension obligations
- Xero, including ledger integrity, the chart of accounts and accurate revenue recognition
- Cash-flow forecasting and management of the working-capital cycle
- HMRC filings and statutory compliance, working alongside our accountants
- Audit and due-diligence readiness
- Improving financial processes, controls and reporting as the business scales
- Qualified accountant — ACA, ACCA or CIMA
- Strong, current Xero experience — this is essential
- You have owned a month-end close end-to-end and produced management accounts that senior leaders have used to make decisions
- Practical credit-control experience, with the confidence and persistence to manage it effectively
- Comfortable being hands-on: you will be running reconciliations and managing the detail yourself, particularly at the outset
- Able to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
- Organised, commercially minded and comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment
- Experience in healthcare, NHS finance or another regulated environment
- Experience supporting a transaction, fundraising process or financial due diligence
- Experience in a fast-growing SME where processes were still developing and you helped build them
You do not need a large-company background or experience managing a substantial finance team. This is a role for someone who enjoys building a function, improving how things work and remaining close to the numbers.
