Your Role Join the Single View of Customer – Data Engineering team. You’ll serve as a technical champion for advanced data engineering within IAG. This role involves leading the development, optimisation, and management of sophisticated data pipelines that support multiple products across various operational environments. Your expertise in SQL, DBT, and AI will drive innovation and efficiency, ensuring that data solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with the strategic goals of the organisation. You’ll play a role in providing a real-time single view of how a customer engages with IAG within their journeys, across multiple platforms, channels, and brands, enabling growth and experience analytics, AI, and personalisation. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop complex SQL queries and DBT scripts to optimize data transformation processes, ensuring high-quality, maintainable code across all data products. Build and maintain robust APIs to enable seamless data integration and access across platforms.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews and create detailed test cases to validate functionality and maintain data integrity. Oversee multiple production releases, ensuring smooth deployments and minimal disruption to services.
  • Leverage experimentation and AI techniques to automate and enhance data pipelines, improving efficiency, scalability, and reliability of data systems.
  • Act as a technical mentor, guiding team members on best practices in data engineering while collaborating closely with the data product team to ensure security, compliance, and alignment with business goals.
  • Lead solution design as a Tech Lead, monitor product metrics for observability, and stay current with industry trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement in both processes and technical capabilities.

This is a permanent position open to candidates based anywhere within Australia.About You

  • Minimum of 8 years in data engineering, with demonstrated expertise in managing complex, large-scale data products.
  • Strong programming experience with SQL (8+ years), DBT (3+ years), Python or equivalent (5+ years), Airflow (3+ years), NOSQL (3+ years), Spark (3+ years), Terraform (1+ years), Github (5+ years).
  • Solid expertise in GCP Stack including Bigquery, Composer, Cloud Build, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, and DataFlow (3+ years).
  • Advanced knowledge in data mapping, modelling, architecture, ETL processes, data warehousing, data governance, and security (8+ years).
  • Solid experience applying DevOps practices (3+ years) including knowing of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (e.g., Docker), and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Experience with API Integration and Lifecycle Management, Rest APIs Development, Node.js, Full Stack App Development, Tomcat, Spring/Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate (recommended).
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development (2+ years) and LLM-based RAG applications (recommended).
  • Comfortable with high-ambiguity projects involving multiple dependencies and stakeholders, synthesizing complex requirements into detailed mappings and clear acceptance criteria, while providing tech leadership and communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences (5+ years).
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Software Engineering or Computer Science, Business Analysis, Analytics/Data Science, Management Information System or in a specific insurance domain(s); or relevant industry and/or field experience.
