Design & Quality Lead

Job Title: Design & Quality Lead

Location: Remote

  • Line Manager: Head of Projects

Direct Reports: TBD (none currently, however as a Lead this capacity has been built in. This may include supervising interns or engineering students)

GPE Pay scale: Level C, Band 1 to 5

Remuneration: Base salary band dependent upon qualifications and experience. Plus superannuation, and STI Bonus.

Position Purpose

**

To design and develop innovative renewable energy projects, ensuring compliance with Australian standards and optimising performance across various applications.

Position Summary

**

As a design engineer specialising in renewable energy, you will contribute to the design and implementation of rooftop and ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and microgrids. You will utilise your expertise in design tools and compliance standards to deliver end-to-end design solutions while collaborating with various stakeholders. Your role will involve technical peer reviews, diagnostic analysis, and troubleshooting to support the successful delivery of renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Design

· Lead the Technical peer review process for inbound design documents, drawings and simulations.

· Lead the end-to-end design of renewable energy projects, including PV, BESS, and microgrids.

· Ensure compliance with relevant Australian standards, guidelines, and codes of practice throughout the design process.

2. Software and Tools Utilisation

· Utilise design software such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, Helioscope, and industry monitoring software packages at an expert level.

· Engage with various native inverter systems and tools like Meteocontrol VCOM for system monitoring and performance analysis.

3. Technical Compliance and Support

· Conduct diagnostic analysis of renewable energy systems and provide performance data aggregation and reporting.

· Offer troubleshooting and technical support to field service technicians as needed.

4. Collaboration and Review

· Perform technical peer reviews of design and simulation documents completed by others.

· Support the onboarding of new and acquired assets into operational systems and software.

5. Product and Sales Support

· Conduct technical peer reviews of new products entering the market.

· Assist sales staff with design-related inquiries and provide necessary technical support.

6. Continuous Improvement

· Contribute to overall efficiency and continuous improvement activities within the design and project delivery process.

· Stay updated on industry changes, automation and control in electrical systems, including PLC and instrumentation.

So, on any given day you might…

· Review inbound designs for projects and provide detailed mark up and feedback to EPC’s

· Remodel EPC sim in Helioscope or PVsyst to ensure all correct metrics have been appropriately input

· Design a turnkey project from scratch to IFC stage

· Research technical specs for BESS or other new products

· Provide tech support to a field agent fixing a system or troubleshoot an issue in our monitoring system

· Head to a site to conduct a Quality and HSE inspection

· Collate asset performance data for the board report

· Present a lunch and learn on system design excellence or relevant topic of your choosing

· Review and revise GPE’s technical installation manual or write a tech bulletin to our EPC partners

· Provide efficiency feedback on what GPE could improve on

Key Selection Criteria

Qualifications

**

  • Degree in a relevant field of engineering or related discipline.
  • SSA accredited designer.

Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in the design of C&I renewable energy projects, including rooftop and ground-mounted PV, BESS, and microgrids.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, and Helioscope.
  • Strong knowledge of DNSP requirements and technical compliance with Australian standards.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally on an infrequent basis.
