ID130 Title: ID131 Research Associate – CFO Office (Volunteer) 

Location: Remote (Preference for applicants in US/Europe) 

Time Commitment: approx. ~10 hours/week (100% Remote) 

Compensation: Volunteer (unpaid) 

Reports to: Head of CFO Office / Global CFO 

Organization: EUSMS gGmbH, München – Handelsregister-Nummer HRB 299065 

Timezone Context: Coordination with GMT+1 (Germany) and GMT+3 (Kenya) 

Role Summary /// 

EUSMS is seeking a structured, analytical, and impact-driven volunteer to serve as Research Associate in the CFO Office. This role complements the Quantitative Researcher, M&E Officer and Graphic Designer - Impact Report bystrengthening our capacity in impact reporting, monitoring and evaluation, and structured knowledge capture. You will focus on quantitative research and data-driven tasks that support organizational decision-making, while also helping the CFO team identify comparables, best practices, and lessons learned from nonprofit activities in East Africa and beyond. 

This role is designed for someone who enjoys both rigorous research and practical application. You will conduct literature reviews, scan external benchmarks, and gather insights on nonprofit operations to support impact reporting and future strategy development. Working closely with the CFO, you will ensure that EUSMS remains evidence-based in its approaches and transparent in its impact communications. 

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the CFO in ad-hoc research requests 
  • Support impact reporting and monitoring & evaluation by gathering and analyzing relevant research and best practices 
  • Assist in qual- quantitative research to complement ongoing CFO Office and programmatic initiatives 
  • Identify comparables, benchmarks, and best practices from other nonprofits and NGOs in East Africa and Europe 
  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings into practical recommendations for CFO team and leadership. Translate relevant summaries to Marketing & Branding Team for Social Media Posts. 
  • Contribute to structured knowledge capture, by to strengthening process documentation and systems with relevant research 

Must-Have Skills: 

  • Strong quantitative and research abilities, with familiarity in monitoring & evaluation approaches 
  • Excellent written and spoken English (C2 level); German at B2–C2 is highly valuable 
  • Ability to independently source, analyze, and synthesize nonprofit benchmarking and literature 
  • Competency in structured documentation, research presentation, and knowledge management 
  • Adaptability, planning, and organization skills in a fast-moving, resource-constrained environment 

Nice-to-Have Skills: 

  • Experience with impact reporting frameworks or evaluation methodologies 
  • Comfort with data scraping tools, coding basics, or visualization software 
  • Multilingual capability beyond DE/EN (e.g., French, Swahili) 
  • Background in nonprofit management, international development, or organizational behavior
