Job Description

Posted on: May 18, 2025

Location:

Fully remote. Candidates may be based anywhere.

Employment Type & Availability:

This is a volunteer role requiring a commitment of (minimum) 2-3 hours per week. The postholder will need to be available for weekly team meetings and responsive to occasional time-sensitive matters, with respect for volunteer availability and well-being.

Salary:

Pro bono/volunteer role.

About Us:

Bystanders No More supports compassionate but hesitant individuals in becoming active advocates for Palestinian rights-encouraging honest engagement with the actions of Israeli leaders, allied governments, and the resulting humanitarian crisis, without requiring political alignment.

Position Overview:

We’re looking for a strategist who doesn’t just adapt to change-they work with it, shape it, and stay grounded in values while navigating complexity. If you thrive in dynamic environments, know when to take the lead and when to listen, and carry a deep commitment to justice-especially for Palestinians-you might be exactly who we’re looking for.

This role serves as a bridge between the founding vision and the organization’s day-to-day operations, ensuring strategic priorities are realized through effective planning and execution. You will design and implement adaptive strategies, facilitate collaboration across diverse groups, and help guide our movement-building efforts in volatile and rapidly changing contexts.

You will report to the Co-Founder and work closely with project managers and the part-time Coordinator (who provides administrative support). All personnel are volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute emergent/adaptive strategies that respond effectively to shifting political and social dynamics.
  • Facilitate dialogue and collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including grassroots activists, NGOs, and international partners.
  • Exercise strong political judgment to navigate complex power dynamics with integrity.
  • Support organizational learning by documenting lessons and adapting approaches based on feedback and evolving conditions.
  • Contribute to a culture of solidarity and shared leadership within the volunteer team and broader network.

Essential Qualifications and AttributesQualifications:

  • Proven experience designing and implementing adaptive or emergent strategies in nonprofit, activist, or movement settings (e.g., working with volunteers).
  • Skilled facilitator with strong emotional intelligence, able to guide diverse groups through uncertainty, tension, and change, and to navigate interpersonal conflict in ways that foster trust and collaboration.
  • Strong political judgment with the ability to read complex power dynamics and make sound decisions.
  • Experience collaborating across cultures, stakeholders, time zones, and organizational boundaries.
  • Deep commitment to human rights work-especially when it involves challenging powerful interests-and awareness of the risks and realities involved in working within volatile or repressive environments.
  • Because this is a remote role, reliable internet access for video calls and online collaboration is essential

Attributes:

  • Sharp strategic thinker who gets things done.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty; resilient under pressure.
  • Comfortable and effective in a non-hierarchical, consensus-driven organization.
  • Acts with integrity and demonstrates a collaborative mindset.
  • Deep, demonstrated commitment to human rights work, especially when it involves challenging powerful interests.

Preferred Qualifications and AttributesQualifications:

  • Experience with relevant digital tools (e.g., Slack) and project management methodologies.
  • Fluency in relevant languages (e.g., English, Arabic).
  • Personal experience with Palestinian solidarity work, with evidence of meaningful involvement.
  • We welcome candidates from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds; relevant experience and demonstrated ability to fulfill the essential responsibilities are more important than formal qualifications.

Attributes:

  • Personal humility and willingness to learn.
  • Deep commitment to values-driven, impact-focused work.

What We Offer:

  • The chance to work alongside principled, creative, and deeply committed people.
  • An environment where bold ideas and critical thinking are welcomed and valued.
  • Flexible work arrangements - including openness to job shares - and a deep understanding of the emotional weight this work can carry.
  • A supportive, non-hierarchical team culture that values collaboration, learning, and shared leadership.
  • A space to transform passion and concern into authentic hope and meaningful action.
  • The opportunity to shape strategy and drive impact in a global context for justice.

Diversity and Inclusion:

We strongly encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences and we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace.

How to Apply

Are you ready to bring your experience, creativity, and commitment to a team that sees strategy as a form of solidarity?

We invite you to apply by submitting:

  • Your CV.
  • A cover letter that outlines your relevant experience and highlights what draws you to this work and how your values align with our commitment to human rights and Palestinian solidarity.

We encourage you to reflect on:

  • How you have navigated complexity, ambiguity, or non-hierarchical environments in your past work.
  • What “solidarity with Palestinians” means to you in practice, and how you hope to contribute to collective impact for Palestinian rights and justice in this role.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Early applications are encouraged.
