About the Role
SMT Inc. is seeking a Senior Field Project Manager to lead end-to-end field execution for critical power systems. This customer-facing role will oversee commissioning and turnover of new installations, multi-site preventive maintenance campaigns, third-party technician networks, and field service standards.
The position is remote with 50–75% domestic travel. The successful candidate will serve as a key technical and customer-facing representative, working closely with facilities teams, engineering leaders, contractors, technicians, and service partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute factory witness testing, site acceptance testing, IST, ORT, energization, and project turnover.
- Develop commissioning scripts and test procedures aligned with NETA and customer requirements.
- Coordinate general contractors, electrical subcontractors, commissioning authorities, and customer facilities teams.
- Lead punch-list closure, root-cause analysis, and technical escalations.
- Scope, price, schedule, and manage multi-site preventive maintenance campaigns.
- Manage project budgets, labor forecasts, parts logistics, and schedules.
- Analyze equipment condition data and recommend proactive maintenance or replacement strategies.
- Select, qualify, onboard, and manage third-party service vendors and technicians.
- Monitor vendor training, insurance, site access, equipment calibration, and safety compliance.
- Conduct field audits and manage corrective actions.
- Maintain vendor scorecards, rate agreements, and service network strategies.
- Develop commissioning procedures, maintenance protocols, service bulletins, and field reporting templates.
- Support quality processes, nonconformance reporting, CAPA, and engineering feedback.
- Build relationships with facilities managers, chief engineers, and reliability teams.
- Support service renewals, expansions, retrofits, spare-parts programs, and training opportunities.
- Assist sales teams with technical scoping, site assessments, and proposals.

Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in field service, commissioning, or project management within the electrical power industry.
- 5+ years working directly with low- and medium-voltage power protection and distribution equipment.
- Experience with switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, UPS systems, transfer switches, PDUs, RPPs, busway, and protective relaying.
- Experience managing multi-site field programs, including scheduling, budgets, subcontractors, and reporting.
- Ability to interpret electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, control/wiring diagrams, submittals, and equipment specifications.
- Experience with electrical testing methods and equipment, including insulation resistance, contact resistance, primary/secondary injection, power-quality analysis, and thermographic inspection.
- Strong communication skills with both field technicians and customer engineering leadership.
- Valid driver's license and passport, or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to pass customer-required background checks and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or another STEM discipline.
- Equivalent military technical experience or completed electrical apprenticeship may substitute for a degree.
- Experience in hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data centers.
- Familiarity with concurrent maintainability, fault tolerance, and Uptime Institute Tier concepts.
- OEM field service experience in critical power or electrical distribution.
- Experience with electric utilities, utility interconnection, BESS, renewable energy, or generation commissioning.
- Knowledge of EPMS, BMS, and branch circuit monitoring integration.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015, internal audits, and CAPA.
- Experience developing third-party service networks.
- PMP, CMRP, or NETA Level III/IV certification.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification.
- Current NFPA 70E training and qualified electrical worker status.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
