AnyLogic Simulation Specialist
Job Description
Posted on: May 7, 2026
Company Description
UrbanID is a spatial analytics and architecture practice. We combine real-world behavioural data with agent-based simulation modelling to predict how design decisions influence movement, operations, and performance before construction begins. Working across built environment, service operations, and live venue contexts, we validate the assumptions that sit beneath a client's decisions: whether a layout can support the service model, where throughput breaks down, and what changes would actually move the dial. Spaces that perform well for people perform better for business. That gap between design intent and operational reality is where we work.
Role Description
UrbanID is seeking an experienced AnyLogic simulation specialist to join its analytics team on a project-by-project contract basis. At the outset we have capacity to engage someone full-time for an initial two-month period, with strong potential to extend. You will work within the analytics team to build, iterate, and validate agent-based simulation models for client engagements, operating independently end-to-end from interpreting a spatial and operational brief through to delivering validated outputs.
What You'll Be Doing
- Building agent-based simulation models in AnyLogic from spatial briefs, floor plans, and operational data
- Modelling pedestrian movement, service logic, staffing scenarios, and throughput across peak, typical, and low demand conditions
- Running sensitivity and stress-testing to produce a realistic range of outcomes
- Validating models against observed or client-provided operational data
- Producing outputs including occupancy curves, throughput rates, and staff utilisation for client-facing findings documents
- Working iteratively with the analytics team and sector specialists throughout each engagement
Qualifications
- Demonstrated hands-on experience building agent-based or discrete event simulation models in AnyLogic (non-negotiable)
- Proficiency in Java for custom agent logic within AnyLogic
- Experience translating real-world operational or spatial briefs into simulation parameters and agent behaviours
- Ability to work from architectural floor plans and spatial data, not only process diagrams
- Strong communication skills: ability to explain model logic and outputs clearly to non-specialist clients
- Availability during Australian business hours
- Portfolio of AnyLogic work with links to simulation outputs required with application
- Experience with Python, MATLAB, or NetLogo is advantageous
- Background in built environment, architecture, urban planning, or service operations is advantageous
Engagement Terms
- Contract, project-by-project basis
- Initial engagement: two months, with strong potential to extend
- All simulation outputs and deliverables produced in the course of engagements are owned by UrbanID; your pre-existing tools and independently developed methodologies remain your own
- Rate: please propose your day or hourly rate with your application
Applications without a portfolio demonstrating AnyLogic experience will not be considered.
