We're seeking an Accounting Consultant to manage client relationships and coordinate accounting teams delivering ongoing financial services to construction companies. Reporting to a Team Controller, you'll be the primary point of contact for your clients, ensuring seamless delivery of accounting services while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and responsiveness. This role combines client relationship management with hands-on accounting work and team coordination.

As our Accounting Consultant, you'll integrate into your clients' operations as a valued team member, owning the client experience from monthly close through strategic financial guidance. You'll work directly with construction company leadership to understand their needs, coordinate your assigned accounting team to deliver results, and proactively identify opportunities to improve their financial operations. This is a full-time W2 position - we are not seeking self-employed consultants or bookkeepers. The role is remote, with candidates based on the West Coast or Hawaii preferred.Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary relationship owner for assigned construction company clients, building trust through consistent delivery and clear communication
  • Coordinate accounting teams assigned to your clients, ensuring timely and accurate completion of monthly accounting deliverables
  • Execute monthly close processes, including reconciliations, job costing analysis, and financial reporting
  • Guide clients in financial goal setting, process improvements, and strategic planning initiatives
  • Monitor and verify financial data accuracy, reviewing findings with your Team Controller
  • Analyze job cost reports and proactively identify issues requiring corrective action
  • Collaborate with external partners including CPAs, banks, and insurance providers on behalf of clients
  • Manage data collection, analysis, and reporting processes for complex client engagements
  • Identify opportunities to streamline client workflows and improve service delivery
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members working on your client accounts
  • Ensure all deliverables meet quality standards and exceed client expectations

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • 3+ years of accounting experience with deep understanding of accounting principles and financial analysis
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills for client-facing interactions
  • Proactive problem-solving approach with strong adaptability to changing client needs
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
  • Experience with accounting software platforms (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships

Nice to Have:

  • Construction accounting experience, including job costing, WIP, and AIA billing
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Sage 300 CRE, or Foundation software
  • Multi-client management experience in professional services or an outsourced accounting environment
  • Professional certifications (CPA, CMA, etc.) or commitment to pursuing them
  • Familiarity with construction software platforms (Procore, Knowify, Bill.com, Ramp)
  • Experience coordinating teams in a project-based environment
