North Co Recruitment are working with a leading UK retail insurer to appoint a Senior Data Scientist into their pricing function. It's a role with genuine technical range - deep learning, predictive analytics and machine learning - and a direct line of sight into how your models shape business decisions, rather than sitting behind someone else's.
What you'll do
- Build and evaluate machine learning models, from deep learning through to predictive analytics, that solve genuine business problems.
- Own the data science lifecycle across large, multi-source datasets, from analysis and cleansing through to deployment.
- Apply a broad statistical toolkit, from GLMs and random forest to NLP, clustering and scenario analysis, to generate insight that gets acted on.
- est and develop new external data sources to keep the team's analytical edge sharp.
- Partner directly with in-house technology and data delivery teams to move solutions from build into production.
- Review the work of junior team members, sharing good practice as the function grows.
- Spot and pitch new opportunities across the business where data science can add real value.
What we're looking for
- Proven experience in a data science role, delivering data-driven solutions that support genuine business decisions.
- Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis, modelling and machine learning.
- Hands-on experience building and evaluating machine learning models.
- Confident statistical modelling skills across techniques such as GLMs, decision trees, random forest and NLP.
- Working knowledge of SQL, data structures, ETL and data integration.
- A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or another quantitative field.
- Insurance experience or exposure to Databricks is a bonus, not a requirement.
- Occasional in-person collaboration at Haywards Heath or Manchester offices.
If you're looking for a Senior Data Scientist role with genuine technical range, real influence over how your models get used, and a business that's serious about flexible hybrid working, we'd be keen to speak.
Salary: £40,000 - £52,000 base, plus discretionary bonus
Location: Remote First, Occasional travel to Haywards Heath or Manchester Offices.
