Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join a Design for Packaging team as a subject matter expert in Product and Packaging Design. This role will help establish standards for future products and manufacturing sites by driving design efficiencies that reduce inbound logistics costs and improve packaging performance.
The position focuses on ensuring parts are designed with packaging, logistics, automation, and manufacturing requirements in mind while optimizing the movement of components from origin to final destination. The role will drive impactful improvements to part design, packaging solutions, and manufacturing line equipment while supporting optimization across the supply chain.

Responsibilities
- Create packaging solutions optimized for automation, material flow, and packing density for new products, while driving improvements to part design and manufacturing line equipment.
- Collaborate with Product Design and Material Flow Engineering teams to populate Plan for Every Part (PFEP) packaging inputs and optimize part design for inbound logistics and automation pickability.
- Establish best practices for automation packaging and maintain a single source of truth for line-side packaging and material handling requirements.
- Prioritize modular, off-the-shelf technologies to reduce design cycle time and improve scalability.
- Collaborate with Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Packaging Engineering, and Factory Design teams to develop optimal end-to-end solutions.
- Present, evaluate, and balance product, manufacturing, packaging, automation, and logistics constraints using technical and financial analysis.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to packaging design, material handling, automation integration, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Participate in design reviews and provide recommendations that improve manufacturability, logistics efficiency, and operational performance.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, or a combination of mechanical design and highly automated manufacturing environments.
- Experience designing components and systems from concept through production validation.
- Extensive knowledge of packaging design, material handling equipment, and manufacturing operations.
- Experience identifying and solving design challenges related to packaging and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with automation equipment and fixture requirements.
- Understanding of integrating equipment designs into existing and new production systems.
Technical Skills
- Experience with CAD software such as:
- CATIA
- SolidWorks
- Similar 3D modeling applications
- Ability to create engineering drawings and perform tolerance stack-up analyses.
- Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, and prototyping processes.
- Understanding of packaging optimization, automation, and logistics principles.
Professional Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.

- Knowledge of automation technologies, robotics, and production equipment integration.
- Experience conducting cost-benefit and financial analyses to support engineering decisions.

Pay and Benefits
Pay Range Minimum: $70.0 per hour
Pay Range Maximum: $71.00 per hour

Compensation and Benefits
A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies.
