Job Description

Member Engagement & Growth

DSPANZ is the peak body representing business software providers across Australia and New Zealand. Our members build the software that helps businesses comply, pay, report, transact and grow - and connects businesses to the broader digital economy and enables them to meet their regulatory obligations.

We are entering a deliberate period of growth. Our focus on payments, payroll, tax, eInvoicing, digital identity and cyber security has never been more relevant to business software providers - many of whom are not yet members. Closing that gap is the job.

We are seeking a commercially minded Member Engagement & Growth Lead to grow our membership base and make membership demonstrably more valuable to the companies who join.

The opportunity

Reporting to the CEO, you will own membership growth end to end: building the pipeline, demonstrating the value of membership, converting prospective members and building relationships that endure. This is a hands-on commercial role, not a coordination role.

You will be the person engaging with senior executives and founders, making the case for DSPANZ membership and turning those conversations into measurable membership and revenue growth.  You will also lead the member engagement and events program that creates meaningful value for members and a compelling reason for prospective members to join.

You will not do this alone. Working closely with the CEO and supported by DSPANZ’s communications, member operations and policy capabilities, together our focus will be on developing and executing campaigns, propositions and member experiences that drive growth.

The role is offered as a two-year fixed-term appointment with a clear mandate: grow the membership base, embed a disciplined member engagement model, and leave behind a repeatable growth engine rather than a one-off spike.

Key responsibilitiesGrow the membership
  • own the membership growth plan and the revenue target behind it;
  • build and manage a qualified pipeline of prospective members - from market mapping and prospecting through to proposal, negotiation and close;
  • target the segments where DSPANZ has the strongest voice - including payroll, accounting, tax and practice management software, superannuation, payments, eInvoicing, cyber security and digital identity;
  • develop, test and pitch a differentiated membership value proposition, including recommendations on tiering and pricing where the current model constrains growth;
  • convert participation in events, working groups and consultations into membership conversations;
  • identify and develop sponsorship and strategic partnership opportunities, working with the CEO to convert high-value opportunities;
  • Be disciplined in CRM - pipeline, stage, conversion and forecast -  so iopportunities can be reported to the Board with confidence.

Retain and deepen the membership
  • build trusted relationships with CEOs, founders and senior executives across the member base;
  • run a structured account-management rhythm across priority members, including scheduled check-ins and active renewal-risk management;
  • design and run the member journey — onboarding, participation, renewal and advocacy — so value is visible from the first month of membership;
  • lead DSPANZ’s annual program of executive forums, roundtables, webinars, briefings and member events, and lift participation in them;
  • gather member insight through check-ins, surveys and feedback, and translate it into service improvements members can see;
  • maintain clear reporting on engagement, retention, member satisfaction, events and growth performance;
  • collaborate closely with the Policy & Advocacy Lead and the Communications & Member Services Officer.

DSPANZ’s renewal strategy is built around a simple promise: every member should be better informed, better connected and better represented through DSPANZ.

What success looks like

Over the two-year appointment you will be expected to:

  • deliver agreed annual targets for new-member acquisition and revenue
  • identify, build and sustain a qualified pipeline of new-member prospects;
  • extend DSPANZ’s reach into agreed adjacent business software segments;
  • establish and document a regular engagement rhythm with priority members;
  • increase the proportion of members actively participating in DSPANZ activities;
  • deliver a relevant, well-attended program of events and executive forums;
  • identify retention risk amongst existing members
  • strengthen member satisfaction and members’ ability to articulate the value of DSPANZ; and
  • give the CEO and Board reliable, repeatable evidence of member value, engagement and growth.

These objectives align with DSPANZ’s Member-First KPI Framework, which prioritises retention, growth, engagement, satisfaction, event participation and disciplined reporting.

About youEssential
  • a demonstrable track record of winning new business - members, customers, partners or sponsors - and delivering against a number;
  • credibility and confidence with CEOs, founders and senior executives, including initiating relationships from a cold start;
  • the ability to build a value proposition, test it with the market and refine it;
  • sound commercial judgement - you can see where the value is and prioritise accordingly;
  • excellent written, verbal, facilitation and presentation skills;
  • disciplined planning, CRM and performance-reporting habits; and
  • the self-direction to drive growth within a small, distributed team.

Highly regarded
  • experience in business software, technology, payments, digital services or regulated industries;
  • experience in an industry association, peak body or membership organisation;
  • exposure to government, regulatory or policy stakeholders;
  • experience in events, community-building or creating partnership.

We are more interested in evidence of growth you have driven than in years of experience or a particular industry background.

Remuneration and conditions
  • Base salary of up to $120,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience and agreed working arrangements.
  • A Growth Performance Incentive of up to 25% of base salary and assessed against clearly defined membership growth, revenue, retention and engagement measures agreed with the CEO.
  • Genuine flexibility: the role is remote-friendly and working arrangements are negotiable for the right candidate. Interstate and trans-Tasman travel is required from time to time.
  • Initially offered as a two-year fixed-term appointment, with a view to extend.

Why join DSPANZ?

This is a rare chance to grow an influential industry association at a pivotal moment for the digital economy — with the mandate, the executive access and the incentive to do it.

You will work directly with industry leaders, government stakeholders and the organisations providing essential business software across taxation, payroll, superannuation, payments, eInvoicing, digital identity, cyber security and other emerging areas.

You will have the autonomy to shape how DSPANZ grows and engages its members, and the opportunity to point to clear, measurable impact at the end of the two years.

How to apply

Please submit:

  • a current resume; and
  • a covering letter. In it, tell us about a membership/customer base or partner network you have grown — what you inherited, what you did, and what you delivered.

Applications should be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, DSPANZ, and sent to hello@dspanz.org

Applications close: 5pm Friday 18 September 2026
