About the Opportunity

ACLED (Armed Conflict Location & Event Data) is looking for an Associate Media and Digital Communications Officer to join its External Affairs team. This fully remote, full-time role focuses on Latin America and Asia and offers a competitive salary of USD 40,000 per year on an initial 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension. Its real-time data is used by humanitarian groups, governments, researchers, journalists, and international institutions to understand conflict dynamics and support evidence-based decision-making. The External Affairs team translates complex research into clear, engaging communications for both specialist and public audiences.

About the Role

The Associate Media and Digital Communications Officer will support ACLED's communications strategy across LATAM, Asia, and specialist Insurance/Risk sectors. Reporting to the Media Relations Manager, you'll contribute to media outreach, digital content production, multimedia projects, webinars, podcasts, and cross-platform messaging. This role is perfect for a bilingual communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced international environment and enjoys collaborating with researchers, analysts, and digital specialists.

Key Responsibilities

Media Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists across Latin America, Asia, and specialist sectors.
  • Draft press releases, media advisories, briefing notes, and quotes.
  • Coordinate interviews and respond to media enquiries.
  • Maintain journalist databases and media contact lists.
  • Monitor media coverage and support communications performance reporting.
  • Prepare talking points and interview materials.
  • Assist with media training and interview preparation.

Digital Communications

  • Create engaging social media posts and campaigns.
  • Design graphics and multimedia assets.
  • Produce short-form video content for digital platforms.
  • Ensure consistent branding, messaging, and factual accuracy across all channels.

Podcasts, Webinars & Multimedia

  • Support planning, recording, and editing of podcasts and webinars.
  • Coordinate guests and schedule interviews.
  • Research discussion topics and prepare scripts or outlines.
  • Assist with basic video production and news clips.

Occasional out-of-hours work may be required as part of a rotating communications schedule, with time off provided in lieu. Limited travel for conferences or filming may also be necessary.

Eligibility Criteria

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, media, international relations, or related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in media relations or journalism.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience translating technical or research-based content into engaging public material.
  • Proven ability to create digital communications, including graphics, social media posts, and short videos.
  • Familiarity with audio/video editing tools like Adobe Premiere, Audacity, or Descript.
  • Experience using media monitoring tools, journalist databases, or analytics platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Knowledge of the Latin American or Asia-Pacific media landscape is essential.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with insurance and risk media publications.
  • Additional language proficiency beyond English/Spanish.
  • Familiarity with Asana or project management platforms.
  • Skills in SEO and digital analytics.
  • Background in campaign communications or event support.
  • Experience in academic, policy, or data-driven organizations.
